During the first week of term three Michelle Swinburn our Townsville Speech Pathologist had the pleasure of having a local Year 12 student shadow her as part of work experience. This was her first time supporting a student since graduating in 2017,
“so it was really nice to start with a work experience student, not someone requiring feedback for university subjects!”
In a lovely turn of events, the student actually contacted LifeTec and asked to have a placement with us by herself.
“She advised me that she’d looked at a number of different speech pathology work places and had picked us because we looked the nicest on the website!!”
Throughout the 4 day placement, she got to observe a number of in-clinic sessions with a range of different clients including young children, teenagers with severe physical challenges and adults with ongoing communication needs due to developmental conditions. She also had a try at a number of different access methods and spent a lot of time learning about all the wonderful AAC resources online.
“It was a lovely experience for both of us and I really hope she goes on to study speech pathology as she demonstrated a real interest in AAC!!”
